In some of my recent blogposts, I have a few dedicated to tips like what to wear to family sessions, or what to do when your kiddos aren’t interested in sitting still. So, I figured I’d put all my tips in one place! Welcome to the Family Photography FAQ blog!
What to Wear
Dress how you want to dress! I always suggest to start shopping in your own closet first.
Start with mom’s outfit. Pick an outfit that mom feels beautiful and comfortable in, and dress everyone else based on that!
Let your kids help choose their outfit: give them options and let them pick.
Choose comfort over fashion!
Be true to yourself and your family: there is no dress code!
What to Do:
If your kids are not interested in sitting still and want to explore, that’s okay!
Let your kids be who they are. Those captured moments are often the best photos!
Show connection and movement! Be yourselves as a family, and let me capture you exactly as you are in that season of life!
How to Dress a Newborn:
Dress them in something well-fitted. We don’t want the tiny baby getting lost in tons of material!
Keep it simple! A well-fitted white onesie is perfect.
Have a neutral colored muslin blanket or two on hand to wrap the baby as needed.
Don’t cover the baby in a full on outfit. Who doesn’t love baby toes and hands?!
Choosing a Location:
I am a HUGE fan of in-home family sessions! There is nothing quite like capturing your family in your own personal space where life is done every day
If you don’t want to do an in-home session, pick a place with lots of great spots for portraits. With little ones, it’s helpful to be active and explore! Of course, I am happy to help with this too!
Choosing a location near the water is great option! Adding water to your family session is always a fun element. Boiling Springs is one of my favorite outdoor spots!
